This is the bauble hanging above my fireplace right now.
And this week it reminded me of a TRUTH I wanted to share.
I've been hyper aware of getting caught up in "THE CRAZINESS" these past few weeks.
Already!
I don't think Black Friday ever helps with that slight panicky feeling ... tell me that's not just me?
Anyway - every year our kids love the tradition of our red £10 Lindt Teddy advent calendar - but for some reason THIS year - I also got caught up with the explosion of "£800 value for £200" advent calendars. What's THAT all about?
Watching influencers un-boxing "christmas magic" on a daily basis, I got SO swept up in it that I found myself actually contemplating THE Charlotte Tilbury one for Kaya.
I KNOW! Then - I had a word with myself!
1. It's £150 for 12 DAYS?! (Err... can I have the REST of it please?)
2. Kaya's not even massively INTO makeup!
3. The contents aren't even items she'd want!
I realised I was getting 100% caught up in:
How OTHERS think the perfect Christmas looks.
How THE MEDIA thinks it looks.
How RETAIL wants me to think it looks!
SO - here's your reminder...
My CHRISTMAS CONFESSION? For years, when the kids were little
I didn't actually enjoy Christmas that much.
There - I've said it out loud!
I used to find my anxiety would slowly creep up as the weeks passed with the pressure of what to do with the Elf on the Shelf, the school commitments, the social commitments - and then, come the day itself, trying to create "the perfect day" for everyone around me would result in my not particularly ENJOYING the day at all!
My reason for sharing?
The pressure is next level at this time of year and I'm not buying into it - and I'd love to encourage you to do the same - you KNOW I've always got your back!
DO IT YOUR WAY!
And yes, my kids BOTH have the £10 Lindt Advent Calendar and love it!
